Welcome to my portfolio!

My name is Marcus Bowers and I’m currently a Sophomore studying to become a broadcast journalist at the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication. The Walter Cronkite School is one of the most prestigious departments at Arizona State University and one of the top journalism schools in the nation. I’ve had the opportunity to work with and learn from many prominent members in the journalism community while here. I’ve attained many useful skills that will help me transition into a journalism career.

So far, I’ve learned how to write for newspapers and collect information through interviews and research for news stories. I’ve conducted numerous interviews and learned to reach outside of my comfort zone to receive information from sources. In my intermediate broadcast class, I’ve learned how to write scripts for news broadcasts and have been an anchor on a live news broadcast through the BLAZE 1330. I’ve also learned how to produce and direct a live news broadcast from the same station. These are just a few of the multiple skills I’ve learned and I’m looking forward to my next two years here.

I also enjoy other activities outside of journalism, and when I’m not at school or in an edit bay, I enjoy outdoor activities. Mountain biking and hiking are two of my passions along with rappelling, when I get the chance to. Arizona has some beautiful parks and wilderness to see. I also coach a club baseball team here at ASU and enjoy playing ball whenever I get the chance to. Writing is another passion of mine and I’ve been blessed to be able to carry this passion into a field such as journalism.
